Hamilton dominates final practice at Mercedes’ Italian Grand Prix

    

Lewis Hamilton was in scintillating form as he dominated final practice at the Italian Grand Prix for Mercedes.
The world champion was 0.393 seconds quicker than team-mate Nico Rosberg, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel 0.938secs off the pace in third place.

Mercedes seem to have a huge advantage over Ferrari, who have a smaller but clear edge over Williams and Red Bull.

Williams’ Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were next, ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.

Hamilton, fresh from his superb effort in finishing third from the back of the grid in Belgium last weekend, was in crushing form throughout the final hour of practice in warm sunshine at F1’s most historic circuit.

Gunmen take over central Mali village

 

    

Gunmen have seized control of the Central Malian village of Boni, after a sustained attack that forced the few troops stationed there to retreat.
It is not clear which group the armed men are affiliated to.

Armed groups have invaded Mali since Islamists took advantage of an ethnic Tuareg uprising in 2012, to seize the North of the country.

A French-led intervention drove them back a year later, but instability has continued ever since.

There are reports that the gunmen spoke Bambara, Mali’s lingua franca during the attack.

Kenyan shilling stable, seen easing due to importer dollar demand

    

The Kenyan shilling was stable against the dollar on Tuesday with demand coming from importers and manufacturers expected to put pressure on it, traders said.

At 0700 GMT, commercial banks quoted the shilling at 101.35/45 to the dollar, unchanged from Monday’s close.

Residents in Amatrice who survived a devastating earthquake in central Italy recounts the horrific sequence of events that changed their world.

Local residents have been taking vegetables and herbs from their gardens to cook food for everyone in the camp, but access to water is limited and the lands are drying up.

The magnitude 6.2 quake struck on August the 24th.

The official death toll currently stands at 290 with most of the dead coming from around the Amatrice area.

Joint Police Enforcement seize 95kg of Cocaine from Ship in Sidney

    

Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) have seized 95 kilogrammes  of cocaine from a cruise ship docked in Sydney Harbour.

In a joint operation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), New Zealand Customs Service (NZCS) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said Isabelle Legace, Melina Roberce, and Andre Tamine, appeared in court via video link on charges of importing a commercial quantity of cocaine.

The three Canadian will remain in custody until their next court appearance on October the 26.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala was on target as Arsenal Ladies secured a 2-0 win over Notts County in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The Gunners grabbed the lead when Oshoala rounded Notts County keeper Megan Walsh before slotting in the opener in the 47th minute.

Arsenal’s Emma Byrne was dismissed for a foul on former Gunner Ellen White in the second half.

But the London side scored again just 10 minutes after the red card.

Oshoala has now scored 2 goals in 9 games in the English Womens Super League this season.

FIFA pay panel meets to set President Infantino’s salary

    

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino is waiting to be paid while FIFA’s compensation commission decides on an appropriate salary for top officials.

But Infantino says that he will make less than the speculated two million dollars a year, which is well below the salary of his  predecessor, Sepp Blatter.

Blatter, who was mired in scandal before being banned from FIFA, made 3.6 million dollars in 2015.

Infantino described past dealings with FIFA`s compensation committee as “insulting” and “completely arbitrary.”

Infantino said his pay could be finalised when the compensation committee meets again.

Djokovic blames Wimbledon exit on Private Issues.

Tullow Oil to commence exploration in Kenya next March

    

British energy group, Tullow Oil has confirmed it will start exploring for oil in Kenya next year March, followingPresident Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to expedite action.

The Chief Operating Officer of Tullow Oil, Paul McDade released the information during a briefing to President Kenyatta at the State House.

Both Tullow Oil and Canadian oil and gas company, Africa Oil Corporation struck oil in the Lokichar Basin in the northwest region of Kenya in 2012.

The Kenyan government and the concerned companies are pushing to start small scale crude oil production in 2017, producing about 2,000 barrels per day.

G20 members to push for World Bank, IMF Reform

 

    

China says several rounds of financial and monetary policy consultations this year ahead of the upcoming G20 summit have generated many results.

Finance Minister, Lou Jiwei said on Sunday it was a milestone as financial and central bank officials from G20 members decided nine prioritized areas and 48 guiding principles for structural reforms.

The policy makers for the first time proposed using monetary, financial and structural reform measures to boost growth and stabilize outlook.

They also agreed to push reforms of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Jiwei said the policy makers also pledged to avoid competitive devaluation of currencies and oppose any form of protectionism so as to facilitate global economic recovery.

LCCI condemns 60% Forex to Manufacturing Sector

    

Nigeria’s Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has  described the  allocation of 60%  of forex to  themanufacturing sector as policy inconsistency.

A statement  from the  Chamber at the weekend said the  action may  pose risk to efficient allocation  of  foreign exchange to many users.

The Chamber  noted that investors  confidence   was   yet to   return to  various segments of the  economy.
